Shia Islam

Shia Muslims constitute approximately 10–15% of the world's Muslim population. Shia Islam traces its roots to the early Islamic community and the question of leadership (Imamah) after the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Shia Muslims believe in the Imamate of Imam Ali (AS) and his descendants — twelve Imams who are considered the rightful leaders and spiritual guides of the Muslim Ummah after the Prophet.

The Twelve Imams

  • 1. Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS)
  • 2. Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (AS)
  • 3. Imam Hussein ibn Ali (AS) – Karbala
  • 4. Imam Ali ibn Hussein, Zain al-Abidin (AS)
  • 5. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (AS)
  • 6. Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (AS)
  • 7. Imam Musa al-Kadhim (AS)
  • 8. Imam Ali al-Ridha (AS)
  • 9. Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (AS)
  • 10. Imam Ali al-Hadi (AS)
  • 11. Imam Hassan al-Askari (AS)
  • 12. Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi (AS) – The Awaited
